CLEVELAND, Ohio -- After concentrating heavily on reinvestigating thousands of leads in older Cleveland rape cases, prosecutors are turning their attention to suburban cases.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty's office has offered the investigative expertise of the DNA Cold Case Task Force to suburban police departments.

Older rape kits, sent to a state lab for testing by suburban Cuyahoga County departments, have already yielded more than 70 hits that identify potential suspects by name in rape cases.

Analysts also found more than 50 additional DNA profiles in kits submitted by 13 suburban departments, including East Cleveland, Lakewood, Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights.

A handful of the cases have already passed a 20-year statute of limitation for prosecution.
