19-year-old father sentenced to life in prison for killing his 2-month-old daughter

12/1/2014 Cleveland -- A 19-year-old Cleveland father was sentenced to life in prison Monday for beating his 2-month-old daughter to death in an attack that broke several of her bones and caused severe brain trauma.

Brandon Moss pleaded guilty in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to murder and child endangering in the slaying of Renee Moss, who died April 9. Moments later, Judge Nancy McDonnell sentenced him to life.

He had been charged with aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and several counts of child endangering. He agreed to plead guilty in an agreement with prosecutors.

State law dictates that a person sentenced to life for murder must go before the Ohio Parole Board after serving 15 years.

Moss apologized for what he did. The mother of the child, Laquonda Johns, 20, also is charged in the girl's slaying. She has a hearing next week to determine whether she is competent to stand trial.
