First 200 parents who bring children to exchange toy guns Dec. 13 will get $25 Dave's gift card

12/13/2014 CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Organizers of a Toy Gun Buyback say the first 200 parents who bring their children to turn in a toy or replica gun will get a $25 gift card for Dave's supermarket. The children will get comic books and other prizes. The limit is one gift card per family.

The toy guns can be turned in Dec. 13 from noon until 2 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club at 6114 Broadway Ave.

The event, scheduled in the wake of the shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, is an opportunity to discuss the impact of violence in the community with children, organizers said.

A Cleveland police officer shot Tamir on Nov. 22 in a park near a city recreation center. Police said the officer thought he had a real gun but he actually had an airsoft pellet gun.The shooting is under investigation.
