Parents number one defense when it comes to protecting kids online

CLEVELAND - Jesse Weinberger tells it like it is when it comes to technology, social media and the role parents play in it. She travels to schools across the country talking to parents and students about internet safety.

"The apps are great, social networking is great, but we need to dial it way back. The first line of defense is parents and if you don't get engaged, there will be a problem," said Weinberger.

Weinberger said she is not anti-technology -- just the opposite -- but said some parents are putting devices in the hands of children who are far too young to handle it.

"Mom and dad literally need to be there, sort of, taking the trip on the information superhighway with them," said David Frattare with the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
