Prosecutors discover identity of 'John Doe' linked to two 1990s rapes


CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cuyahoga County prosecutors say they now know the identity of the first "John Doe" indicted in a decades-old rape case.

George Young, they say, tried mightily for years to avoid having his DNA profile collected by authorities. But after a jury convicted Young, 48, in March of shooting three people and he was sentenced to prison for more than 30 years, it was only a matter of time before his DNA caught up with him.

Prosecutors and investigators from the DNA Cold Case Task Force had scrambled early last year – at the same time Young was preparing for trial -- to find clues to the identity of the man linked to a rape report made by a 13-year-old girl in 1993.
