Brother of former Browns' linebacker Eddie Johnson sentenced to life in prison for hammer slaying

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The brother of former Browns linebacker Eddie Johnson was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for killing his girlfriend by beating her in the head with a hammer and then stuffing her body in the closet of a Lakewood apartment late last summer.

Johnny Johnson, 57, of Cleveland pleaded guilty to murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Moments later, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Joseph Russo handed down the sentence, saying the earliest Johnson can seek parole is in 15 years for the slaying of Pamela Friedl, 55.

Friedl’s body was found buried beneath about 30 pounds of clothes and other household items in her closet Sept. 5 at the Elbur Manor apartments, prosecutors said.
