Anesthesiologist who sexually assaulted patient will leave the country after serving his sentence

Cleveland -- A former anesthesiologist who admitted sexually assaulting a patient was sentenced Monday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to 45 days in jail and must register as a sex offender.

But Ramez Gharabawy may be able to resurrect his career in Egypt, where he is moving with his wife, three children and parents on July 25, prosecutors said. He had served 16 days in jail so will be released before he moves.

His house and car are for sale and his son has been registered for school in Egypt.

His victim, who didn't want a trial and didn't appear at his sentencing because she never wants to see him again, is pleased he is leaving the country, Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Jesse Canonico said after the hearing before Judge Deena Calabrese.

"You do not deserve to breathe the same air as me or walk on the same land – I hate you," Canonico read from her victim impact statement.
