Former Richmond Heights superintendent denied early prison release

The state prison system has refused to allow convicted former Richmond Heights Superintendent Robert Moore II to enter a program that would have enabled him to serve just a fraction of his corruption sentence.

Prison officials denied the request after Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold did not agree with the move, a spokeswoman said Friday.

Saffold in May sentenced Moore to a year in prison for extorting money from a day-care operator. The program would have allowed him to leave prison after three months.

County prosecutors echoed Saffold's decision, and they criticized the plan by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
