Man who killed cousin, uncle in triple homicide to spend life in prison

Cleveland —The man who killed three people, including his cousin and uncle, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder Thursday and was sentenced to three consecutive life prison terms.

After 10 months of legal proceedings, Dalevon Artis withdrew a not guilty plea Thursday before Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Matthew A. McMonagle and admitted to the killings.

The consecutive life sentences were part of a plea agreement presented by prosecutors. McMonagle agreed to carry out the sentence they recommended.

Artis shot his cousin, 26-year-old K'yara Artis in the head, and emptied rounds into the bodies of his 76-year-old uncle, Melvin Johnson, and a third victim, Nancy Worthean.

Police found the bodies days after they were left to rot in the family's Ada Avenue home.
