Parents plea guilty in death of 1-year old son
The parents of a 1-year-old boy accidentally shot dead in Cleveland two years ago plead guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter.
The boy's father, Ricardo Sims, faces a mandatory one year prison term under the plea agreement, while the mother, Shanee Robinson, could be sentenced to prison at the discretion of Cuyahoga Common Pleas Judge Nancy R. McDonnell.
The couple was set to stand trial this week on reckless homicide, involuntary manslaughter and multiple counts of endangering children. Under the deal reached Wednesday, the reckless homicide charges and all but one endangering children charge will be dropped.
Braylon Robinson was fatally shot in the head when another 3-year-old boy he was playing with found a gun that police say Sims hid underneath a living room sofa. Shanee Robinson, 24, had been babysitting the 3-year-old boy, along with several other children, at their home on East 63rd Street.
Both parents will remain free on bond until Oct. 19, when McDonnell is scheduled to hand down a sentence.
