ICAC Investigation Leads to Indictment of Registered Sex Offender

4/24/2017

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that Robert Arias was indicted on 26 charges for sharing and creating child pornography.

The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on suspicion of an individual uploading child pornography. An investigation by ICAC led officers to an apartment building located on Seneca Blvd. in Broadview Heights.

On April 14, 2017, Robert Arias, 53, was arrested for being found in possession of hundreds of images of child pornography including children under 2-years-old and up to 9-years-old. The investigation also revealed that Arias had taken nude photographs of a 7-year-old boy who was living in the residence and sending them to other child pornography users.

Arias is a registered sex offender for a 2006 conviction for sharing child pornography.

“This sexual predator has escalated his activity to violating and grooming young children who are living with him,” said Prosecutor O’Malley. “This indictment demonstrates that we will not tolerate this in our community.”

His arraignment is scheduled for April 26, 2017.
