Man Indicted for Murder of Couple Who Owned E. 185th Street Car Lot

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that Joseph McAlpin has been indicted for the murders of Trina Tomola and Michael Kuznik.

The indictment charges McAlpin, 29, with 25 counts including with Aggravated Murder, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Murder, Kidnapping, Felonious Assault, and Burglary, and Cruelty to Animals.

Kuznik, 50, owned Mr. Cars II on East 185th Street and Tomola, 46, worked alongside him.

On April 14, 2017, McAlpin broke into the car lot, shot and killed the couple along with their dog, and stole a vehicle.

It was determined a second vehicle was stolen and police are pursuing leads for additional suspects.

“This couple dedicated their lives to their family business and the Collinwood community. Words cannot adequately express the pain and damage this crime has caused,” said O’Malley. “My office will be reviewing this case to determine if capital specifications should be added.”
