Rape kit testing projects could 'revolutionize' future sexual assault investigations, prosecutor says

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty welcomed a consortium of law enforcement, public officials and crime victim advocates to Cleveland this morning to discuss their common resolve to tackle rape kit testing, investigations and prosecutions in their cities.

"If we do our job, thousands of women will not be raped," McGinty told the gathering. "If we don't do our job, thousands will."

The first-ever Sexual Assault Kit Backlog Summit involves participants from Memphis, Detroit and leaders from national organizations, including the National Center for Victims of Crime and the non-profit Joyful Heart Foundation.
