Cronie Lloyd Convicted of Murder, Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing 83-Year-Old Man at Independence Gas Station

CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that a Cuyahoga County Jury found Cronie Lloyd, 48, guilty of Murder for killing Gary Power, 83, at an Independence gas station on February 3, 2019.  After the verdict was returned, the Judge immediately sentenced him to Life in prison.

“This defendant inexplicably attacked an 83-year-old man over a minor fender-bender,” said Prosecutor O’Malley.  “The quick and diligent work by Independence Police helped bring this defendant to justice.”

On February 3, 2019, Lloyd and the victim were at an Independence cocktail lounge on Rockside Road.  They did not know each other and did not interact while at the bar.  They both left at approximately the same time and got into a minor traffic accident.  They drove to a nearby gas station and exited their vehicles.  Surveillance video showed that while engaging in a conversation, Lloyd walked up to the victim and punched him in the head causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground.  Lloyd walked back to his car and fled the scene.  Independence Police were called to the scene and the victim was transported to the hospital where he died two days later.

An investigation conducted by Independence Police, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office linked Lloyd to the location at the time of the crime.  His DNA was found on the side of the victim’s vehicle and on a cigar butt recovered by responding officers on scene.  Lloyd was arrested at his place of employment in Ravenna on February 8.

After a four-day trial, a Jury found Lloyd guilty of Murder and Felonious Assault.

He was sentenced to Life incarceration with first parole eligibility after 15 years.
