Paul Soucie, Economic Crimes Unit Supervisor
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Paul Soucie is the supervisor of the Economic Crimes Unit. He joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in 1990, after eight years in private practice. He also worked in the accounting and insurance industries prior to joining the office. Mr. Soucie received his law degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
Matthew Meyer became an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney after being admitted to the Ohio Bar in 2002. He has done extensive trial and appellate work, and in 2013, was appointed by the Prosecutor to be supervising attorney of the newly created Public Corruption Unit. During the Yazeed Essa murder investigation and trial, he traveled to Greece to interrogate a key witness and led a two-year effort to extradite the fugitive back to the U.S. to stand trial. In 2012, he was part of the three person team that successfully prosecuted Denny Ross on behalf of Summit County for the 1999 murder of Hannah Hill. In 2013, the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association gave him its meritorious Assistant Prosecutor Award for his work in the Ross case. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron as an art history major and worked as a law clerk at the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office while attending law school at Case Western Reserve University.
Erica Barnhill, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Erica Barnhill joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in 2006, after receiving her J.D. from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has been a member of the Economic Crimes Unit since 2013.
Edward Brydle, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Edward Brydle joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in 2008 after receiving his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He also has earned his B.S. in Political Science from Ohio University. He is responsible for prosecuting a variety of felony crimes before the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and the Eighth District Court of Appeals.
James Gutierrez, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
James Gutierrez has been an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney since 1986. He has been a member of the Economic Crimes Unit since 1994. He obtained his law degree from the University of Akron College of Law.
Brent Kirvel, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Brent Kirvel is proud of his years of public service in Cuyahoga County. He joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in 2005, after serving as an Assistant City Prosecutor for the City of Cleveland. He was appointed to the Major Trial Unit in July of 2007 and now is a member of the Special Investigation Division. Brent has spent his career in government service, and is dedicated to providing quality service to the residents of Cuyahoga County. His background includes extensive experience in violent crime prosecution. He graduated from Ohio University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science, and later attended the Cleveland-Marshal College of Law.
J.D. May, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
J.D. May earned his law degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1996. He has been with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office since 2002, and has been a member of the Economic Crimes Unit since 2009.
Jennifer O’Malley, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer O’Malley joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office after receiving her J.D. from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is responsible for litigating felony cases before the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and the Eighth District Court of Appeals. Prior to receiving her J.D., she was a law clerk in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
Joshua Wilczynski, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Joshua Wilczynski joined the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in October 2014 in the Economic Crime Unit (ECU). He received his J.D. from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 2013 and is licensed to practice law in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. He earned his M.S. in Administration of Justice in 2008 from Mercyhurst University and his B.A. in Political Science in 2006 from The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining the ECU he clerked at a premier criminal defense firm in Cleveland, Ohio.
